Odyssey Essay

There are three main reasons why high school students should not be forced to read The Odessey. There are many things that high schoolers should not be exposed to.Things like violence, meaningless sex, and hard literature for kids to read. It is a good educational book with a large variety of vocabulary but it seems that the bad outweighs the good.
Violence plays a huge part in this epic story. Bloodshed is talked about so much that it cannot be healthy for a teenager's mind. Sure some violence is okay, but the Trojan War and killing all the suitors as they yelled "spare me", they tried to seduce his wife and that is what pissed him off, but it seems too much like a massacre. At the cave with the brawny cyclops was pretty bruttle. "As soon as the wood was on the point of catching on fire" they jabbed the fiery stick into the exasperated Polythemus. Like a scythe the wood peirced right through his eye. When they were anything but conspicuous tieing themselves to the underbellies of sheep. Polythemus is Posiedon's son and when Posiedon hears about this he makes it very hard for him to get home. Critics ban all sorts of books for violence and horror, so why is this book any different?
Next is the sex, Homer makes it seem so casual and harmless. Even though Odysseus was forced he still cheated on his wife with comely goddesses like Calypso and Circe. Calypso a nymph, didn't want Odysseus to leave till Hermes comes and says "That's the man, and the orders are to send him away at once." So she did what he said. Where the author makes sex seem casual, it can cause teenagers to think it is really only casual and can cause problems in a childs life, such as unplanned pregnancies.
Last is it can be very hard for high school kids to read. This book has long boring text than goes on and on. They prattle on forever about this long odyssey. As well as arduous vocabulary, many characters makes the book very difficult. For example if you don't remember a character it is very easy to get lost, that will cause distress. You may find that quizes are tough when you cannot remember certain details about certain characters.
Those are reasons that high school students should not be forced to read The Odessey. On the other hand it does have good vocabulary and a good story with Odysseus coming up with all his strategems. But truly it is a terrible book with all the warfare, sexual relations, and strenuous text.

My Favorit Movie

Sure there are many great comedy movies out there but none of them are better than the all-time great movie Black Sheep. This movie has anything one needs in a comedy: good actors, then great scripts with lots of humor, and a realistic plot.

Actors are a very important part of any movie and this is no exception.Two very imortant roles are played by only of comedy's best Chris Farley and David Spade.This is not the only movie that two hilarous and funny actors have been in. Tommy Boy is another well known comical movie.

The writers nailed the script because it has a great storyline and its hilarous. It is about a guy running to be the Governer of Washington, and his brother (Chris Farley) keeps screwing up his campaign. They send in a limo driver (David Spade) to keep Chris Farley in line but still make it seem like he is a big part of the campaign.When his brother loses the election, he comes in and saves the day finding fraud in the voting system.

Another element that someone might enjoy about this film is that it is somewhat realistic. It doesn't take place in universe with a crazy storyline. Rather, it takes place in Olympia, Washington. Reasonable things happen but it cannt be denied that some events are very unlikely but it still could be something someone might go through. Sometimes to make a great comedy movie, the writers might have to stretch the truth a little bit.

Black Sheep is a great movie and the best of its time. It is hilarious and has a great plot. Not only does it have great script, but it also probably has the best actors, which nobody could replace. It simply would not have been even be considered good without them.

The lottery was a good story because it taught about culture, sacrifice and a lottery. Their culture was very unusual because of their stoning and other crazy beliefs in my opinion. Their ways of sacrifice was a little weird by gathering the whole town and stone someone who was picked. Everyone shaking hoping they don’t get picked and if they do it is for the better of the crops. The lottery was a very good way to pick someone so nobody gets any exceptions. It’s like a scary roulette game. Watch now they will make a reality television show out of it. This paragraph was about different peoples way of life, how they dealt with death, and talked about the luck of the draw.
